na poniedziałek proszę szybko przetłumaczyć mi informację o British Muzeum.
W latach 50. XIX w. zbudowana została obecna siedziba Muzeum Brytyjskiego. Począwszy od 1880 r. nastąpiło przenoszenie zbiorów dotyczących historii naturalnej do nowego budynku w South Kensington, gdzie powstało Muzeum Historii Naturalnej. Dzięki temu podziałowi, a także budowie Białego Skrzydła (ang. White Wing), przynajmniej na jakiś czas został zażegnany problem braku miejsca na eksponaty, z który Muzeum boryka się do dziś. Z tego powodu wiele eksponatów jest przechowywanych w podziemiach Muzeum.
W 1973 r. nastąpiło przejęcie czytelni i biblioteki przy Brytyjskim Muzeum przez nowo powstałą Bibliotekę Brytyjską, a książki opuściły budynek w Bloomsbury w 1997 r.
W 2000 r. otwarto przykryty szklanym dachem Wielki Dziedziniec Królowej Elżbiety II (ang. The Queen Elizabeth II Great Court), który powstał w miejscu zajmowanym wcześniej przez bibliotekę (szklany dach został zaprojektowany przez angielskiego architekta Normana Fostera). Ponowie otwarto tam czytelnię, a wokół niej i pod nią znajdują się nowe galerie.
Muzeum Brytyjskie w 2003 r. uświetniło 250. rocznicę powstania renowacją najstarszego pomieszczenia, zwanego Biblioteką Króla (ang. King's Library), w którym otwarta została nowa stała wystawa o epoce Oświecenia. Od 2002 r. dyrektorem muzeum jest Neil MacGregor. British Museum jest największym muzeum historii starożytnej w Europie, posiada siedem milionów eksponatów, przedstawiających niezwykle bogatą historię Londynu, Wielkiej Brytanii, Europy i wreszcie świata. Są to przede wszystkim mumie, wazy, dzieła literatury oraz rzeźby.
Obiekt został otwarty dla odwiedzających 15 Stycznia 1759 roku. Jego założycielem jest Sir Hans Sloan.
Ogromny gmach muzeum zajmuje 75 000 metrów kwadratowych (to 4 rzymskie kolosea lub 9 boisk piłkarskich). Rocznie przewija się tędy ponad 5 milionów zwiedzających.
Obecnie najbardziej rozpoznawalną częścią British Museum jest największy w świecie zadaszony dziedziniec. Autorem wartego 100 milionów funtów projektu jest światowej klasy architekt Norman Foster. Uroczyste otwarcie z udziałem Elżbiety II miało miejsce w grudniu 2000 roku.
W tym muzeum nie jest pobierana opłata za wstęp.Za obejrzenie tylko niektórych ekspozycji czasowych specjalnie znajdujących się w muzeum,ale nie będących integralną jego częścią - opłaty są pobierane.
