When the clock struck midnight, I heard a knock on the door and somebody whispered, "Let me in".
Petrified i walked slowly toward the door. I didn't know who it was. Suddenly the knock repeated and i held my breath. I couldn't move so i just stood where i was hoping this person would go away and leave me alone. After moment of hesitation i whispered back : "who is it?". Nothing, nobody answered. Convinced that i was finally alone i breathed out with relief and went back to living room. I was alone at home and i couldn't get asleep.
All of a sudden i heard another knock but this time on the window. I took a grip on myself and opened the window. Initally i didn't see antyhing, but when i looked down i saw little girl. She was maybe 10 years old, her face was dirty and eyes frightened. "oh my god, what are doing here? alone at midnight, where are your parents?". She didn't reply, just started to cry. I told to come into the house so i could help her. Finally she confessed that her mother told her that fairies travel by night, when children sleep. So before midnight she slipped out of house to look for them but she got lost.
Story ended happily. The girl remembered her home phone number so i immediately called her parents. They came really quickly, worried about her and thanked me for saving her daughter. At that moment i was a hero but inside i was still frightened.
