Big Ben is the name of the bell weighing 14 tons placed on top of 106 foot tower. It is regarded as a symbol of Britain. This bell hangs on one of the two towers of the London parliament.
The construction made it as soon as part of The Houses of Parliament burned. It was designed by two architects. The first was Charles Barry, and the second - Augustin Pugin. It is made in the neo-Gothic style with ashlar. Today, many people say that Big Ben is the name of the world famous London clock. The name Big Ben is derived from the name of Sir Benjamin Hall, Chief Commissioner of the works in 1858, when the bell is suspended. Cast in Whitechapel was already the second great bell, because the first crack appeared when trying to run (the current bell also has a slight fracture).

Big Ben jest to nazwa ważącego 14 ton dzwonu umieszczonego na szczycie 106 metrowej wieży. Uważany jest on za symbol Wielkiej Brytanii. Dzwon ten zawisa na jednej z dwóch wież londyńskiego parlamentu.
Budowę jej podjęto zaraz po tym jak część The Houses of Parliament uległa spaleniu. Zaprojektowany został przez dwóch architektów. Pierwszym z nich był Charles Barry, natomiast drugim - Augustin Pugin. Wykonany jest on w stylu neo-gotyckim z kamienia ciosanego. Obecnie wielu ludzi twierdzi, iż Big Ben to nazwa słynnego na całym świecie londyńskiego zegara. Nazwa Big Ben wywodzi się od imienia sir Benjamina Halla, głównego komisarza robót w 1858 roku, gdy dzwon ten zawieszano. Odlany w Whitechapel był już drugim olbrzymim dzwonem, ponieważ na pierwszym pojawiła się rysa podczas próby uruchomienia (obecny dzwon również ma nieznaczne pęknięcie
